Same-Day and Last-Minute Moves in San Diego
Last-minute moves are legal in California, but the paperwork still applies: you're owed a written estimate after a visual inspection and a Not to Exceed price before work starts. If the estimate is issued less than three days before the move, it can't exceed the tariff's maximum-rate charges.

What rules apply to a short-notice move?
Normally the Agreement for Moving Services arrives at least three days ahead, but the tariff allows exceptions when you first contact the mover late. Even then, the Not to Exceed price and the mover's signature must be on the Agreement before service begins, and the mover can't start until you sign the Important Notice About Your Move.
What are the red flags with last-minute movers?
Pressure to skip the walk-through, a quote by phone only, demands for cash or a large deposit, and a rental truck showing up are all on FMCSA's list of red flags, and BHGS warns that phone or internet estimates are prohibited for in-state moves. Check the license even if you're in a hurry; it takes a minute.
