Moving in North County Coastal

North County Coastal moves are shaped by beach parking and summer crowds more than distance. Carlsbad bans containers in the street, Del Mar limits big trucks to four hours, and the Del Mar Fair and racing season fill I-5 from June into September.

Which cities are in North County Coastal?

Five cities along I-5 from Camp Pendleton to Torrey Pines:

  • Oceanside: beach permit parking west of the tracks and a 2–6 a.m. oversized-vehicle ban.
  • Carlsbad: no dumpsters or pods in the street; master-planned HOA communities.
  • Encinitas: $269 encroachment permit; Leucadia, Cardiff and Olivenhain.
  • Solana Beach: encroachment permits not always approved; racing-season traffic.
  • Del Mar: four-hour limit for oversize vehicles; summer beach parking nearly full.

What's the main traffic issue for coastal moves?

I-5 is the spine. New carpool lanes between Solana Beach and SR-78 were substantially complete in 2025, but the I-5/SR-78 interchange still has no direct connectors and backs up at Vista Way.
